About Seddon Park
On the edge of Hamilton’s central business district, Seddon Park is one of New Zealand’s premier cricket venues.
One of only a handful of specialist cricket grounds in the country, Seddon Park has been recognised as one of the best international venues on the world cricket circuit, influential magazine The Cricketer declared Seddon Park as "a perfect circular venue with grassy banks running around from a classy pavilion".
Despite being a small "boutique” ground with a "village green feel” – especially when compared to arenas such as Melbourne Cricket Ground or Calcutta’s Eden Gardens - Seddon Park can still hold up 10,000 spectators. The contoured grass banks at the southern end of the ground provide an intimate atmosphere, with most vantage points giving a 360-degree view of the playing field.
It has been a first class cricket ground since 1956/57, and an international ground since 1987, when New Zealand and Sri Lanka played One Day International. In the 2013-2014 season, New Zealand completed a 2-0 Test series victory over West Indies at Seddon Park, followed a few weeks later with a victory over India which saw the Black Caps claim that ODI series.
The ground is named after former New Zealand Prime Minister Richard Seddon, and is a short walk from Victoria St (Hamilton’s main street) and the city’s bus depots.
The official Seddon Park website is www.seddonpark.com, and the venue is managed by Hamilton City Council.
How to get to Seddon Park
Located just a few minutes walk from Victoria Street, Hamilton’s main boulevard, Seddon Park is in the heart of Hamilton. There are three main entrances to Seddon Park. The venue can be accessed from Seddon Road to the west, Tristram Street to the east/north and from Bryce Street to the south.
For international matches at the ground, we recommend patrons either bus to the nearby transport centre (Bryce Street/Anglesea Street), or walk to the venue.
Parking in nearby streets is limited and we recommend patrons allow time to park elsewhere and walk to the stadium.
Patrons visiting from outside Hamilton may wish to consider rail as an option to travel to the city: the Hamilton railway station is on Queens Avenue, just two blocks (5 minutes walk) from Seddon Park.
